TOP/LATTU/ PUMBARRAM THEN - BEYBLADE NOW - 99








All of us would have at one time or the other have had occasion to play with the Lattu ( Hindi ) or Pumbarram ( Tamil ) . The thrill of spinning the Top ( English ) both on the ground or on  the palm of your hand or even aiming and breaking someone else s TOP by aiming your TOP s nail tip on to your friends stationary Top on the ground , i am sure is still fresh in everyones s fading memory . 

What brings me to write on the subject is the new toy which goes by the name of BEYBLADE  which has almost become a fad with the kids here in these parts .
It is a line of spinning TOP TOYS originally manufactured by Takara Tomy and released in Japan in 1999 . There are 4 different versions of the same  , BEYBLADE FIERCE BATTLE  , METAL FUSION , BEY WHEELS and BEYBLADE BURST OR TURBO .

This is extremely popular among the kids and is almost like the Lattu or Pumbarram of our days without the rope or string . 
A toothed wheel and a plastic rack is assembled to get the desired rotory motion of the Beyblade ( Top of our Days ) .

Whose Beyblade rotates the longest or which one makes the other Bleyblade loose its Balence and fall aside decides the winner. 
My grandchildren from both my Daughter and Sons side in the 6 to 10 age group were together for almost 3 days  and had a whale of a time with these gadgets . Except for the high decibels of their cheer , their presence went almost unnoticed .

Netflix has an entire series of videos on the subject and the kids stay tuned to it for hours .

 AYODHYA YAATRA  DAY - ONE     Sundar Holiday Travels  As instructed  by Mr Ashok of Sunder Travels , we were dot on time at 9.00 thanks primarily due to smooth flow of traffic from Vadapalani to the Chennai  Airport .  Other Yatrees also slowly trooped in . Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands .  VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
