AGASTHIARPATTY  MAN AND SNOWFALL It is rare for a person from South Asia and more so for a person from  almost the very tip of  South India    to have had a first hand encounter with A SNOWFALL . For most , barring a few occasions the min temp most might have had to  face would have been in the 15 Degrees Range . I was in Toronto on the 11 th of Nov 2019 and on this day there was a snowfall of a record 14 Cms which was the highest recorded for the past 10 years at that time . The view all around was a sheet of white,  so much so that our flight back to India the very next day  got delayed by 3 hours because of the same .   Something surely rare  for ; OUR  MAN FROM AGASTHIARPATTY

         MY MEMORIES OF MIDNAPORE                                               ( MEDINIPUR ) Medinipur is very much in the news now because of Home Minister Amit Shah Ji visit to this place as a Launchpad for the 2021  Bengal Assembly Elections . As i had mentioned in my earlier Blogs , My schooling was at Kharagpur and Medinipur which was then called as Midnapore was the District Headquarters of Kharagpur . The coverage of Amit Shah Ji s visit to this place and the elaborate arrangements for the same  has revived memories of my own many visits to this place . SIDDESHWARI TEMPLE , MEDINIPUR  Medinipur is at a distance of 20 Kms from Kharagpur and being the District Capital had a number of shops which were bigger than those at Kharagpur . I have made a number of visits to Midnapore with my Parents for shopping as well as the visit to the Siddeshwari Temple . One such visit  which I remember was with Rama Rao , Our  Bungalow Peon assigned to my Father for the purchase of HAWKINS PRESSUR

       ,,,,,  PASSPORT RENEWAL EXPERIENCE  Getting the very first Passport and its renewal after every 10 th year has never been a pleasant experience thus far .  The 4th time experience of my interaction with the Passport office earlier this week has been totally different from those of the earlier ones . I think I would need to elaborate a bit more so that a clearer picture can be got . Getting my First Passport in April 1990 from The Regional Passport Office at Tiruchy was sans any excitement except the wait of almost 6 months that it took for the Passport to be delivered . JABERLAL my good Coats friend at VK Puram took care of all the rest . THE HAND WRITTEN PASSPORT WAS A PRIZED POSSESSION.  First renewal of the Passport at the  Regional Passport Office Tiruchi in March 2001 was one hell of an experience . Everything about it was all in shambles . The Building , Crowd , Brokers , Touts , Xerox and  Copying Kiosks , Typewriting Machines and everything that it had  did little justic

HOW GOOD ARE MY EARS   I AM YOUR EARS  WE ARE TWO IN NUMBER AND ARE TWINS Sadly our fate is such that , WE HAVE NEVER SEEN EACH OTHER AT ANYTIME DURING OUR LIVES  I do not  know as to what has led us to this sorry  state . More importantly  our bad fate does not end here , infact it  just happens to be the beginning . WE THE - EARS - ARE ENDOWED WITH THE ABILITY TO  ONLY LISTEN , BE  IT ALL THE ABUSES OR  A FEW ENCOURAGING WORDS WHICH  COME OUR WAY NOW AND THEN . AS WE AGE , WE ARE MADE TO CARRY THE WEIGHT OF THE SPECTACLES AROUND OUR EARS . THE SPECTACLES ARE FOR THE EYES WHICH IMPROVES A PERSONS  EYESIGHT , WHY DO I NEED TO CARRY THE EXTRA WEIGHT OF THE SPECTACLES AROUND MY EARS ALL THROUGH MY LIFE TIME . I CANNOT SEE BUT I CAN SURELY HEAR EVRYTHING THAT GOES ON IN FRONT OF ME OR EVEN  BEHIND MY BACK . WHY DO PEOPLE WHO ARE LOUD MOUTHED ALWAYS GET TO HAVE  THE LAST LAUGH IN ANY ARGUMENT.  DURING SCHOOLDAYS WE THE EARS ALWAYS CAME IN HANDY TO OUR TEACHERS WHO WOULD SCREW OUR EARS NO E

           MAHADEVA ASHTAMI 2020  The Mahadeva Ashtami this year was on the 8  th of Dec 2020 . This was Celebrated at the VK PURAM SAMAJAM in a somewhat subdued manner because of the fears of Covid - 19 . For the uninformed ,  this is the day when the VAIKKOM MAHADEVA TEMPLE Observes the event in a grand manner and a sumptuous lunch is partaken as the Prasadam from Lord Shiva to his Devotees . On similar lines after the Abhishekam and Poojai at Sivanthiappar Temple the sumptuous lunch was served at the Newly Renovated Samajam at VK Puram . This is an occasion when members of the Samajam make it a point to gather and be a part of the function . Former Employees of MADURA COATS who form a sizeable chunk of the members use this opportunity to meet and exchange notes. Many send in their contributions if they are not able to make a personal presence.  HOPE THIS TRADITION CONTINUE IN YEARS AHEAD .

  Weatherman Predictions go for a Toss  I have always held the view that the IMD and the Weathermen have been doing a splendid job as far as Weather Forecasts are concerned . GAJA OCKHI NIRAV of the very recent past come to mind . Pinpointing the Precise Path , Duration and Severity have  been instrumental in aiding the Govts of the day to take advance measures to save lives , create shelters for the poor by providing a safe place to stay during the cyclone and provide them with food and offer Medical Facilities .  Getting the Fishing Folks and their boats back  safely anchored forms a very Important part of the Govt and the Weathermans Reports form the basis fot this. THEY HAVE BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN SAVING MEN MATERIAL.AND LIVESTOCK . The current BUREVI Cyclone has however been a disaster and the Weathermans Reports have gone for a complete toss .                INVITING A PROTEST People by now have a fairly clear view on the positions various Tamil Channels will take on various issues be it of importance at the  National level or ones closer home to Tamilnadu.  Todays  protest seeking RESERVATIONS for PMK is a case in point . A particular channel which is clearly a defacto mouthpiece of the party and in perfect know-how of the buttered side of the BREAD was waxing eloquent on the protest with particular emphasis on the complete blockage of the highway . The Newscaster was all elegance as she described the protesters gathered in huge numbers and the police having a tough time to bring some sort of control over the unruly mass . She went on to add that 2 and 4 wheelers on their way to their daily workplace were held up and the blockage extended to almost 5 kms .
