As one grew older , the experience of watching a Movie or Cinema as it was then called in the  olden days has changed a lot .
The silent movie era was over by the time I as a kid was taken to the " Talkies " as the Theaters screening the movies were then referred to .

The " Bombay , Minerva and Milony " Talkies in Kharagpur , W Bengal are  places which still ring a chord for the many happy hours spent in the company of Shammi Kapoor ,Joy Mukherjee , Rajendra Kumar , Dev Anand not to forget Sadhana , Asha Parekh , Sharmila Tagore , Saira Banu and ofcourse the skimply clad Helen .

Those were the days of 35 mm , Black and White movies and Cinemascope and Coloured movies were  still a fair  distance away .

Cycle was the sole mode of transport and a fair distance had to be covered to reach the matinee show starting at 2.45 pm . EK KAA DO , EK KAA DO  was a shout we always feared and dreaded as it meant that tickets were available only in the black market and finding resources for that EXTRA RUPEE  was always a big problem .

Black and White Movies made way for Eastman Colour and Technicolour . 35 mm made way for Cinemascope and 70 mm Todd AO movies with stereophonic  sound systems .

The way we went to see a movie changed from walking  barefoot to the humble Cycle and finally to the Motor Bikes and Cars .

Single Theater Halls  made way for the
Cineplexes  and Multiplexes .

The need to stand in a queue and fight it out to get a ticket have  gone the online way .

Amazon Prime , Netflix and YouTube have now brought the Movie to your home on your mobile or the TV Screen .

The latest fad is the screening of the movies on the walls of your own  home on super extra large screens .


HOME THEATER IN THE ALL NEW TRUE SENSE AND EXPERIENCE


The Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh of the old era or the many Khans , Deepika or Karishma of the somewhat new and   even your much awaited sporting event of any genre can now  be  watched in the comfort of your own home .

CINEMA HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM THE BOMBAY AND MILONY TALKIES OF FAR AWAY KHARAGPUR TO YOUR OWN HOME BE IT AT TORONTO , REGINA OR              AGASTHIARPATTY

 AYODHYA YAATRA  DAY - ONE     Sundar Holiday Travels  As instructed  by Mr Ashok of Sunder Travels , we were dot on time at 9.00 thanks primarily due to smooth flow of traffic from Vadapalani to the Chennai  Airport .  Other Yatrees also slowly trooped in . Ashok seemed to have his way with the Indigo Airways . Group Check in saved us a lot of time . Lunch packet Distribution done we were on our way and were before time at Lucknow .  Lucknow was a lot different from what I had imagined , airport was spotlessly clean as was their baggage handling services .  Mr Ashok saw to it that we were off on a Bus to Ayodhya in a flash . Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands .  VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
