TANJORE VISIT WITH MOHAN/MALATHY COMBO (2)-148
Our plan for our second and final days visit included the visits to the following places . We had a packed schedule as our departure time from Tanjore was 8.00 pm .
1 ) Tanjore Bangaru Kamakshi Temple :
This temple is situated in the heart of the Tanjore City . Bangaru Kamakshi refers to the Gold Plated Kamkshi Idol . This temple draws visitors on all days .
2 ) Thittai Vashishteshwarar Temple :
This temple some 12 kms from Tanjore is busy on all days as there are innumerable visitors who flock here for worship . This is especially so because this happens to be a
GURU STHALAM .
3 ) Gangai Konda Chozha Puram :
This temple some 70 kms from Thittai was conceived as a replica of the Big Temple at Tanjore . While the father Raja Raja Chozhan built the Big Temple at Tanjore , his son Rajendra Chozhan conceived the same here . Both bear a striking resemblance to each other .
Be that as it may . 28 th Feb happened to be the inaugural day of the Annual Masi Festival . We were fortunate to be able to partake in the same . Abhishekam , Archana , Chanting of Rudram , Chamakkam by young and well endowed IT Professionals from Chennai was pleasing to the mind , ears and eyes . We spent almost 3 hours savoring the beauty of the place .
4 ) Tanjore Mariamman Temple :
After a lunch at Jayamkondan , we returned back to Tanjore Mariamman Kovil . Despite the crowd we were able to have a good darshan of the Ambal .
5 ) Tanjore Saligrama Ramar Temple :
The Rama , Lakshmana , Sita and Sugriva
( not Hanuman ) statues in this temple are made from Saligrama Rocks which were gifted by the King of Nepal to Serfoji Maharaj as part of a wedding gift . The exquisite paintings on the walls of the temple depict the entire Ramayana in the sequence in which it happened .
Time for our departure is nearing . We had started with the Vaduvur Ramar Temple and ending the present visit with the Tanjore Saligrama Ramar Temple .
Will be back with more such visits by this Combo as and when it happens .
