CASCADE 13" BLACKSTONE FAN MADE USABLE - 185

POWER OVERLOAD FUSE IN THE PLUG

                                       ITSELF

Last November when my SIL Kamesh came visiting to India , he had brought Two Cascade 13 " Blackstone Fans , one  for the use of his father at Tirunelveli and the other for the use of Mami that is my better half at Agasthiarpatty.  These are small Fans that do not need a big empty space for operation .
Mami usually spends the better part of each morning in the Swami Room . It is a small sized room and with all the Deities around there is very little space for the old  USHA pedestal fan which is  of little succour in the confined space available . Kamesh had bought the Cascade  Fan from Costco , Canada for use by Mami to tide over the heat during the hot summer months .

We ourselves had arrived from Canada in late November 2019 . After a few days I tried connecting the fan in the Swamy Room . Call it ignorance or downright stupidity , I had forgotten that we in India operate at 220 V while  it is 120 V in the Canada and US . There was a big PHUT and that was the end of the Fan .

Even more damaging was the fact that I had a 220 V to 120 V Converter in my Possession.

By a strange coincidence Kamesh had attempted the same at his father's  place in Tirunelveli at almost the same time which also ended with  the same tragic results .

It lay in almost a tragic and forlorn state in the  top shelf of  the bedroom attic  . In these Lockdown days the one thing that all of us are endowed with in plenty is  TIME  at our disposal  . While surfing the net , I chanced upon the fact that the CASCADE FAN was provided with a protective  fuse with a spare in the POWER INPUT PLUG itself . There was also a short Video on how to change the Fuse .
I have never come across any home appliance with this safety feature before in India and did not  notice anything different with the Plug that we normally use .

Sure enough , the fan was brought down from the Attic and lo and behold , the fuse was quickly changed and since I had the 220 to 120 V converter with me , the fan is now working fine . I wonder how many of us have seen this SAFETY Feature in India .

Video of the Fan Working and the Special Protective Plug with the Provision for FUSE is attached below .
