WHY ARE WE UNABLE TO SQUAT ON THE
FLOOR ANYMORE
( chappalamkooti or kaal madichi )
Most of us past our middle age might have started feeling it difficult to SQUAT on the floor for various reasons . Some like me may find it even impossible to do so now . A few on the other hand may even feel it rather odd to waste time on discussing on a lowly topic of being able to Squat or sit cross-legged on the floor.
Be that as it may , each one is entitled to his own views on any subject , however inane.
Those who are able to do it , Congrats , keep doing it regularly .
For those like me who are unable to do so , here are 4 reasons which were once our daily routines and which we have given up over the years could have contributed to our present sorry plight .
1 ) Most , if not all of us during our pre teens would have partaken our daily Breakfast , Lunch or Dinner sitting cross legged on the floor on a mat or wooden charpoy . The Dining Table has put an end to this thrice a day daily activity .
2 ) The Daily Elaborate Pooja with which we were all accustomed to , sitting on the floor of the Puja Room with our parents is now an almost forgotten ritual and what little of it is done is hardly for a minute at the most and that too in a standing position .
3 ) During my school days , i distinctly remember doing all my studies and home work , sitting on the floor with nothing but a small desk to do the writing work . The Study Table has put paid to this practice now as the desktop screen has to be accommodated now with the online teaching which is now underway because of the pandemic ..
4) Last but not the least , is the daily must do activity of going to the LOO . The Western Toilet has replaced the Indian Toilet in almost every home . Any place with only Indian Toilet finds no takers .
All the four activities which needed the help of the Muscle , Tissue and Bones near the Knees have been given a complete rest .
NO WONDER WE ARE UNABLE TO
SQUAT ON THE FLOOR
ANYMORE .
I sit cross legged even in my office chair.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that you are among the lucky few . Keep it up all the same .
