     UPAKARMA 2020 DURING COVID TIMES 

For the uninformed UPAKARMA refers to the Auspicious Day when the members of our community  change the Sacred Thread .

This is  an annual and an elaborate function . The Vadyar, Padit or Sastrigal guides the members of the community in the Recitation of the Mantras , Tarpanam , Yagyam and the Change of the Sacred Thread .  The Covid 19 made the assembly of people impossible but the indomitable devotion and sincerity of the members of the community soon found that a solution was on  hand .

This years function was on the 3 rd  of August 2020 .

The entire process was carried out by the members of the community in their respective homes with the Vadyar/Sastrigal conducting the same via the MEET OR ZOOM APP and on many occasions from a very different location .

THANKS TO THE TECHNOLOGY MY SON/SON IN LAW  IN CANADA AND CLOSE RELATIVES IN THE US AND GERMANY WERE ABLE TO PERFORM THE RITUALS AS IN INDIA .

 AYODHYA YAATRA  DAY - ONE     Sundar Holiday Travels  As instructed  by Mr Ashok of Sunder Travels , we were dot on time at 9.00 thanks primarily due to smooth flow of traffic from Vadapalani to the Chennai  Airport .  Other Yatrees also slowly trooped in . Ashok seemed to have his way with the Indigo Airways . Group Check in saved us a lot of time . Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands .  VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
