THOUGHT PROVOKING HEADLINES
Today's Newspaper has some really eye catching captions as their Headlines .
We are in the midst of a raging Pandemic with almost 3 Lakh new infections everyday in the State .
1 ) TASMAC NETS CLOSE TO 320 CRORES ON PONGAL EVE SALE
Schools and Colleges are closed , places of mass gatherings such as amusement parks , zoo , Govt Offices are functioning with certain curbs , total weekend lockdown which include closing of places of Worship on Friday , Saturday and Sunday hardly leaves anyone in doubt about the Government's job on hand to curb the spread of Pandemic to Uncontrolled Levels .
Two very conspicuous items left out from this ambit of restrictions are the Movie Theaters and the TASMAC sales outlets .
I do hope that I am wrong but there seems to be strong notion that with depleted resources on hand , the Govt has hardly any other option up its sleeves to keep the Govt day to day Machinery running to meet its commitments .
The Second is the First List of Candidates announced by the Saffron party for the UP Elections .
2 ) OBC , SC NAMES DOMINATE BJP S UP LIST
Out of the 107 names announced in the first list of Candidates for the UP Elections 44 are from OBC and 19 from the SC Brethren .
It is all very well to Shout from Rooftops and show placards extolling the virtues of SAMUTVA NEEDHI but quite another to give them a place in the echelon of POWER .
3 ) PENNYQUICK S STATUE TO BE INSTALLED IN UK
We all know of the Mahatma's Statue in the Heart of London and many other Capitals around the World .
PENNYQUICK was a British Colonel who was the Man behind the construction of the Mullaiperiyar Dam which fulfilled the Agricultural and Drinking water Requirements of large tracts of land in the Southern Districts .
The Government of Tamilnadu has come forward to install his STATUE at his native place of CAMBERLEY in the UK . A Welcome move which should be appreciated by one and all .
4 ) RISHI SUNAK IN LINE FOR PM OF UK
The above news item does seem far fetched at the moment but the rumblings at the corridors of power in the UK does seem to suggest that the day is not far when this could be a reality .
That a man of Indian Ancestory is in line to call the shots in the UK which ruled us till some 75 years back does make us proud and happy to be an Indian .
5 ) Now , Kohli steps down as Test Captain .
This is indeed sad , I have never been an ardent Kohli fan . I have had many issues with his ways of handling the team or his Team Selection for a particular match and especially his handling of Ravichandran Ashwin in all formats .
The undeniable fact is that he has been our most successful Captain in all formats of the game and definitely deserved a decent Exit from The Test Captaincy .
6 ) DJOKOVIC RETURNS TO DETENTION .
The Australian Government and its PM do need to be appreciated for standing firm in their resolve to deny DJokovic an Australian Visa to take part in the Australian Open Tennis Championship.
It must be remembered that DJokovic is no ordinary citizen . He is the No 1 Ranked Tennis Player in the World . The PM had earlier overturned the ruling of the Judiciary which had looked the other way and granted him a Visa Earlier . Smart Move indeed by the Government.
