Ambasamudram and Agasthiarpatty Yesterday - 562
A Scorching Heat Here / B Freezing Cold There
Today is the last day of March and the Summer is upon us at Ambasamudram in a telling manner . It is terribly hot till about 3 pm and a bout of strong wind and heavy summer downpours follow . This has been the pattern for almost a week now .
This pattern took a very serious turn for the worse yesterday . It was particularly hot till about 3 pm when all of a sudden , very heavy wind with lightening and thunder followed with an equally powerful shower of windy rain .
Many trees and power lines got uprooted so much so that the fallen trees completely blocked the road to Papanasam near the Agasthiarpatty Primary Health Center.
I seem to have had an experience of both the extremes. Scorching Summer Heat and Freezing Cold have both been part of me for almost a decade now .
We belong to a place called Ambasamudram in Southern Tamilnadu, India . This place though comfortable weatherwise for most part of the year becomes very hot during the summer months of April to Mid June . The temperature hovers around the mid to late 30 Degrees Centigrade during this period . We have got used to this and overcome this with the help of the various appliances now in the market.
As I have already mentioned before , I have been a frequent visitor to Canada , visiting my Daughter and Son settled there .
Ten years back , I was at Regina in the Saskatchewan Province of Canada . I had already visited this province before but at relatively better climes . This time it was on the 11 th of December , co-passengers and my daughter had already warned me that it would be terribly cold and windy when we landed there and that our arrival would hardly be a Welcome one Weatherwise . Sure enough , the travel from the Regina Airport exit to the car Parking Lot was a Himalayan task . Freezing cold and the blustery winds and snowflakes all around , with your feet sinking in to snow almost to your knees made it all the more difficult .
Thermal Innerwear , 2 layers of inner and outer Jacket ,coat , leather gloves , headcap with a hood to cover the ears and heavy spiked shoes were of little comfort . That we were never used to these heavy winter clothing went on to make it even more discomforting .
We were there at Regina to help out with my daughter s delivery . Sure enough , my grandson was born on 20 th December and guess what , the temperature was MINUS 47 Degrees Fahrenheit. The entire area as far as one could see was a sparkling white sheet of snow and the trees were only stumps without a single leaf or a blade of grass anywhere around . The play ground which used to be lush green normally did not even have any sign of vegetation of any sort .
We did get over it , but the change from the Indian Summer of Agasthiarpatty to the Canadian Winter of Regina does send shivers down our body everytime a winter or snow is mentioned even in passing by anyone .
This brings into focus the scorching heat , the summer rains and the heavy winds which brought about an all around disruption of services yesterday at Ambasamudram .
Lucky to be a part of Best/Worst of Both the Worlds
OMG, this is the the 4 o'clock showers of Singapore and other equatorial regions. I don't remember Ambasamudram like that. I can very well imagine the impact of such a weather. Canada at -47degrees, oh my. I can imagine both of you trudging along with those heavy clothes with you feet buried in the snow. How did mami cope up. So beautifully captured the moment. I can visualise the fallen trees near the health centre. Take care mamaji. Loved the blog. Take some time off and come to Coimbatore. It would be a pleasure to serve you both as well as an honour.
