S Bend on The Way To Trivandrum - 555

                               S  BEND ON THE WAY 

                                   TO TRIVANDRUM 


I have travelled to Trivandrum by the Shenkottah Ghat Road right from my School Going Days . The travel then on this road by Car or by Public Transport was No less than an Adventure of an epic proportion. 

 First and foremost , the roads then were single lane  Tar Roads in various stages of repair or pot holed especially at the umpteen Hair Pin Bends enroute .

One unforgettable spot during the journey as you travel from Shenkottah is the very first ' S ' bend as you enter the Ghat Section . 

The traffic on this section is almost always very high. This is because of the fact that almost anything of daily use , be it consumables or construction material for Kerala has to come from Tamilnadu . Hundreds of Heavily loaded lorries  make use of this precarious bend everyday . Traffic snarls leading to long delays is a common feature . It used to take almost 5 hours from this famous  S BEND to Trivandrum by Car.


On the 11 th , I had to go to Trivandrum Airport . The Roads are very well paved and wide now . The traffic  has  increased many times over ,  with Cars and Trucks of Various Sizes and Shapes making use of this road .

The Ayyappa Swamy Sabarimala Devotees during their Annual DARSHAN see crowds of unmanageable proportions. Being stuck for almost days together with miles and miles of Cars , Vans and Trucks stuck one behind the other  is a common feature in this section .

Now back to my current trip.

As can be seen on the Cars Display Screen , we were at the start of the ' S ' Bend at 8.30 AM . The Bend itself is now re laid in a scientific manner as are the many hair pin bends . Surprise of Surprises we were at Thycaud near Trivandrum Central Railway Station at 10.30 AM . Just Two and a Half Hours or half of what it was some 5 Decades back .

 AYODHYA YAATRA  DAY - ONE     Sundar Holiday Travels  As instructed  by Mr Ashok of Sunder Travels , we were dot on time at 9.00 thanks primarily due to smooth flow of traffic from Vadapalani to the Chennai  Airport .  Other Yatrees also slowly trooped in . Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands . VAIKOM VISIT- IN GODS OWN COUNTRY - 686

 VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
