COATS STAFF We have all walked around the Earth - 578
COATS AMBAS STAFF
EACH ONE OF US HAS WALKED AROUND THE
EARTH
COATS STAFF , DID YOU KNOW THAT , ME , YOU AND ALL OF US HAVE WALKED AROUND THE MOTHER EARTH MORE THAN ONCE . THIS IS SURELY A STUPENDOUS FEAT. NOT MANY CAN BOAST OF HAVING BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THIS SINGULAR FEAT .
UNLIKE THE DAVID NIVEN - PASSPATO MOVIE OF OUR CHILDHOOD DAYS " AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS " OUR JOURNEY IS OF A FAR LONGER DURATION .
A Textile Professional , who could be from The Spinning , Weaving or Processing Departments faces many issues which are unique in many ways during his working life . Being a largely labour intensive sector , the ability to extract work from the workforce under you is always an issue and ones usefulness to the company or otherwise is judged solely on your ability to meet the daily , monthly and yearly prescribed Production and Quality Targets .
Long working hours , sleep deprivation because of having to work in shifts , irregular eating habits and timings , very high Decibel level at the workplace because of the Machinery under you , 24 × 7 x 365 hours of scrutiny by your superiors are all factors with which you learn to live with after the initial starting hiccups . One sort of starts getting attuned to it over a period of time . The very " FIRST NIGHT AT WORK " as an Apprentice in Loomshed in Aug 74 is still fresh in my mind . M/S Abdul Karim - Mohan Ram as the Shift and Section Incharges were a terror to one and all . With nothing much to do , keeping your sleepy eyes open was one hell of a task . Looking for ways and means to steal a wink was all pervading .
I seem to be painting a rather grimy picture of a Textile Professional s daily lifestyle but rest assured it is the very opposite of what I have in my mind .
Barring a few exceptions , people in and around my age group are Thanks to the Almighty , free of any major health related issues except for the normal age related issues that one associates with while getting on in age .
The point I am getting at is that WALKING AND WALKING alone has been the single reason for our relative wellbeing .
Be it the Madura Coats Loom Shed with its 1200 Shuttle Looms or the huge Shuttle Less Shed or its Multifloored Spinning Mill or the Huge Bleaching , Dyeing and Finishing Department Complex , each person manning the department would have covered at least 5 kms every single day of their working life .
(This includes the walk to the various other Departments , walk to the colony , Bhai kadai , Canteen , Traversing the length and breadth of the shed umpteen number of times)
This at 265 working days in a year for 35 years of working life works out to a staggering 46375 kms ( 100 days have been left out purposely as holidays etc ) With the circumference of the Earth itself at 40000 odd kilometers , each one of us has walked around the Earth at least once .
KEEP AT IT , WALK MORE AND STAY HEALTHY .
