RAVANASAMUDRAM  SPELT                     WRONGLY  IN  DEVANAGARI OR HINDI

WRONGLY SPELT IN HINDI OR DEVANAGARI

HOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SPELT

Recently , I came across a news item in one of my Group Whatsapp posts which showed RAVANASAMUDRAM Railway Station Nameboard in the Devanagari or Hindi Script as RAAVANASAMUDRAM  . I for one am totally ignorant of how this has gone unnoticed thus far . For obvious reasons One is not inclined to be associated with a place that has the name Raavan associated with it . Now , this beautiful village is my native place and I would love to explain as to how the place came to be called as RAVANASAMUDRAM in the first place .
The village was named after Ravanappa Naicker who ruled the place some 350 years back . Ravanappa Naicker was a descendent of the Naicker Dynasty which ruled over Madurai and the surrounding areas in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries . After the downfall of the Naicker s regime at Madurai , several members of the royal family and the Poligar chieftains , who owed their allegiance to the Naicker rulers travelled further South with their followers and established small principalities in Tirunelveli and Ramnad Districts . One such Naicker Ruler named Krishnappa Naicker , fled towards Ambasamudram and established a small settlement on the banks of thep8 river Ramanadhi , this place was then called Krishnapuram .

In course of time the British came to know about Krishnapuram and demanded levy from the king . But Krishnappa Naicker refused to pay any tribute to the British. In return ,  the two Ambassadors sent by the British Governor , treacherously broke open the dam accross the Ramanadhi . The people of the village were soon the victims of the floods . In course of time , the flood ravaged village was completely rebuilt by Ravanappa Naicker , son of Krishnappa Naicker , who took over the reigns after his fathers death . The village was then named after him as RAVANASAMUDRAM .

Hope the Railway Station Nameboard in Hindi ( DEVANAGARI ) is corrected at the earliest and respects given to the person who made the village with greenery all around and  the beautiful Temple come into being .

Glad to inform all that in response to the mail in which I had highlighted the mistake in spelling Ravanasamudram correctly in Hindi to no less than the Hon Railway Minister Himself and the General Manager , Southern Railway , I have now received communication  to the effect that it would be corrected at the earliest.

THE BOARD AFTER CORRECTION .
THE AUTHORITIES WERE KIND ENOUGH TO SEND ME A PICTURE AFTER CORRECTION

THANKS  TO THE RAILWAY MINISTER /GENERAL MANAGER - SOUTHERN RAILWAY FOR TAKING ACTION AND CORRECTING THE SAME IN A VERY SHORT TIME AFTER THE LAPSE WAS POINTED OUT .
