Tirunelveli Junction Urgent Need - 701

Dear Sir ,

We are a couple in Our Seventies who make frequent use of the Railways and are very appreciative of the excellent services provided in making our journey safe and comfortable. 

Our recent experience at Tirunelveli Junction has been sad to say quite an opposite of the above . 
We are from Ambasamudram and were on our way to Ayodhya via Flight from Chennai to Lucknow . We had our reservation by the PNR 4515407270 -  S1 Coach Berth 49 and 52 by on the 28 th August for us to catch the flight . Our reservation was by the 30 th 12641 Thirukkural Express From Tirunelveli Junction to Chennai Egmore . 

So we had 2 Check in and 2 Hand Luggage with us .  The Shenkottah to Tirunelveli Passenger arrived on Platform No 3 . Why should a train which is a connecting Train for all the long distance Trains at Tirunelveli be received on Platform 3 is beyond me . For those not comfortable with climbing the connecting link , Luggage has to towed till the end of the station where a foot pathway is fortunately available at the end of the platform on either side .  
We were on the First Coach after the Engine . This Passenger Train was Received on Platform No 5 at Tirunelveli . 
We got down from the Train with our 4 luggage and walked up to the lift which unfortunately was not working. There being no other way , we walked the entire stretch of the platform and proceeded to the Enquiry Counter near Platform 1 making use of the foot pathway,  only to learn that the 12641 Thirukkurural Express will be received on Platform No 3 . Fortunately the lift up the platform No 1 and Down the Platform No 3 Worked , 
Another set of problems were before us now ,  there was no display Coach Position Board across half the Platform . 
Google informed us that it will be the 3 rd Coach after the Engine , we lugged our baggage to the end of the Platform . 

Other Passengers for the Nagercoil to SMVT Bangalore Express which was depart earlier also had a similar problem . 

At around 9.20 PM there was an announcement in the Public Address System through which we learnt that the S1 Coach will be the 3 rd from the Rear of the Train close to the PWR Coach  . The same ritual followed and we moved our luggage to the other extreme end of the Platform . 

I guess a couple in their 70 s could be provided with the following basic help . 

1 ) At Ambasamudram all morning Trains from Tirunelveli should be Received on Platform No1 as almost all long distance Trains arrive in the early morning . 
2 ) All Trains after Noon to Tirunelveli  from Ambasamudram should be Received on Platform No 1 as most Long distance Departures start from early evening at Tirunelveli . 
 

This would help all the passengers arriving or departing with luggage at Ambas Railway Station in a very big way .  

3 ) Electronic Display Board near the Staircase Or Lift or Escalator in each Platform Indicating the Platform of Each Arrival or Departing Train . 

4 ) Speedy Fixing of the Electronic Coach Position Display Board . This position across half the Platform No 3 is a problem for a couple of Months Now . Technology to reach the Moon is not required for this . 

As one of the most Lucrative Stations in Southern Railway , Tirunelveli Railway Station needs your urgent attention .

    Very sad to note. It reminds me, our return journey ftom Mohal sarai to Chennai. Very frequently the station in charge itself not aware of the train arrivals. But in down South it is very rare to happen, that too in this Modi regime.

  2. Sir, I fully agree. At the same time, this applies to the people who come from Trichendur to some extent from Tuticorin as well. We need more battery cars in Tirunelveli Station across platforms so the seniors with luggage’s can use that facility and change platforms at our convenience - Paul

    1. Dear Robert Sir , I tried this option also , the Battery car operator informed me that the Vehicle is for the use of the Senior Citizens only and only very limited Luggage could be allowed and our 4 suitcases can't be allowed as he would be fined heavily if caught .
      Passenger and Luggage can't travel separately, Can they Sir , sounds absurd .
