ROOPAVAHINI / DOORDARSHAN -4-782
ON THE EVE OF A LANDMARK --4
Continuation of Posts 1,2 and 3
THREE QUARTERS OF A CENTURY I BELIEVE IS A LANDMARK FIGURE AND IF ONE WERE TO ASSOCIATE THIS WITH ONE'S AGE WHICH IN MY CASE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER , IT DOES COME WITH ITS LOT OF PLEASANT MEMORIES AND SURPRISES .
Visual Media : Cinema
Cinema is a very popular industry the World Over . From the Silent 16 mm Era to the 70 mm Widescreen ; Tod EO ; , High Definition, Black and White to Nova - Eastman to Technicolour, Film Rolls to Digital Projections , Stand Alone Theatres to Multi Screen Cinema Complexes , From 3 Shows a day to 7 shows a Day with the Grand Opening Shows of the Superstars on Festive Days at the ungodly hour of 3 AM , a feature which has now come to stay for measuring the stars popularity at the Box Office ; Standing in the queue and fighting your way to get the tickets is a thing of the past , online booking is the order of the Day now .
TELEVISION :
Television has completely Changed the way we watch our Movies , Going to the Theaters to watch the Movies are only done on rare occasions and that too only if it is a SUPER DUPER GOOD Movie in the range of a BAHUBALI . TELEVISION is now the place where we prefer to see not only our Movies but any other event which interest may YOU .
TELEVISION : It might surprise many but I was amongst the very first to have a Television Set in and around our colony and VK Puram in the Early 80 s . My nephew from Russia had presented me with a Portable Black and White Television Set which had a Screen Size which was all of 3 INCHES !! .
ROOPAVAHINI Programs of Sri Lanka just started to be getting Watched in and around the Southern Districts of Tamilnadu . With the New Delhi Asian Games around the corner , the Kodaikanal TV Tower which was nearing completion was the most Eagerly Awaited Event .
To view the ROOPAVAHINI Clearly and DOORDARSHAN Telecast one needed to have two sets of Antennas and Double Boosters mounted on masts some of which extended above 100 Feet . The joke going around the Mill Colony was that one could view the shores of Sri Lanka atop these Masts . Over a time period , yours truely too became a master at assembling the 21 Blade Antenna for ROOPAVAHINI and 18 Blade Antenna for DOORDARSHAN with their Separate Boosters and accompanying gadgets . In fact I became a Defacto TV Technician for the Colony Residents and helping in the Screening and Setting up of their Television sets in many houses in the Colony .
Slowly the Dish Antennas came into being with every house in the Colony connected to the same . Co axial Cables made way for the flat TV Wires . Flat Colour LED TV in place of the Huge and Bulky TV stole a quick March over the earlier Version .
72 Inches Flat Screen with a SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM is a big progression from my early 3 inch Black and White Television Set .
Various streaming options via Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar and other channels provide Movies , Episodes, Sports Content at any given Hour of the Day or Night and more importantly in the Language of your Choice .
The Stand Alone Cinema Halls are getting Converted to Apartment Blocks or Marriage Halls .
The point to note here is that Sri Lanka have been our forerunner in both the instruments of Mass Media Communication - RADIO AND TELEVISION ; That we went ahead of them later by leaps and bounds is a story for another day .
