         GANAPATHY BAPPA MORYAA RE 

Ganapathy Puja each year is a very occasion and has always been special especially to me in more ways than one .

My Schooling was mostly at Kharagpur in W Bengal  and a part at  Bhilai. Both are very cosmopolitan centers with people from all parts of the Country residing there  . Ganapathy Puja was a most looked forward to event especially if you were a kid .




In Kharagpur ,  be it the Bungalow No 281 or later Bungalow No 620 , the beat of the huge drums and Brass Cymbals accompanied by the blowing of the big conch shells at the Mandap in RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE HEADQUARTERS near the SERAA STADIUM  could be heard loud and clear from afar . On the visarjan day The Little Ganesha from our house would join the final treck of the RPF IDOL to the SALWA lake  . We loved to walk along with the truck for a while .

Ganapathy Pooja is the biggest Festival of  Maharashtra and draws huge crowds across the numerous Mandaps adorning the huge City . Lalbagh Cha Raja being the star attraction for one and all . The year 1972 comes to mind in a flash . After a visit to many Mandaps , we the students of SASMIRA , both Boys and Girls trooped in to the ROXY Theatre to watch  the very popular Movie  of those days -PIYAA KA GHAR . I could be wrong  but I have heard it mentioned somewhere that it belonged to the Ambanis . I am not sure if it is true or the Theatre still exists . It's namesake in Calcutta where I watched the Movie Cleopatra does not exist anymore .

2024 COIMBATORE : - 

This visarjan day is even more special because I could reestablish contact with a person with whom I had grown  up as a school going kid. This  after a gap of 60 years made it all the more special  . We had such a large part of our lives to share that I and Mami  just about managed to catch our  Train back to Tirunelveli literally at the very last minute . The visarjan crowd was huge and  moved at a snail's pace adding to our anxiety.

2026 Bangalore : - 



We are now in Bangalore this year on the Auspicious occasion of Ganesh Pooja as our Tenant has vacated my Son's Apartment at SJR SPENCER APARTMENT MARATHAHALLI . It needed a facelift by way of Painting and White Wash and a few minor repairs before  we could settle on a new Tenant .

The Ganesh Pooja happily coincided with our stay. Many old and new faces were happy to see us and welcomed Revathi s active participation in the Kolam / Rangoli and Pooja Formalities . 














It was a Grand Experience with Evening Pooja , Aarathi and Dinner posted later in the evening . The cultural event presented by the Kids was very enjoyable . The efforts out out  by them despite their  looming examinations just around the corner  is really commendable . The Dinner was tasty and sumptuous . The Utsav Committee volunteers needs to be complimented for their efforts .

Thankfully all pending works for my apartment have now been completed and we should be heading back shortly.

          NEW LOOK AMBAI RAILWAY STATION  Right from my childhood days , the annual trip down South to RAVANASAMUDRAM,  my Native Village  from the then CALCUTTA or KHARAGPUR during the Summer Vacation has always been an amazing experience . This was more so for the Meter Gauge journey from Chennai Egmore to Tirunelveli First and then to RAVANASAMUDRAM by the Shencottah Passenger . The change over from the Electric to Steam Locomotive at Villupuram Junction Station was a much looked forward to event .  AMBASAMUDRAM Railway Station was a much awaited location as the Steam Locomotive billowing smoke with  the rumbling Sound of the Train as it crossed  the Tambarabarani River Bridge with the huge Iron Girders  was an unforgettable experience .
