IKEA - ALTOGETHER NEW EXPERIENCE -70
I am sure many amongst us would have heard of IKEA , the Swedish Ready To Assemble Furniture Makers . They are the largest Furniture providers in the world for the middle class . This may or may not be the choice for the fancy and classy upscale varieties where price is not an issue. They currently have business interests in 70 countries across the world .
Its first sales outlet in India was inaugurated just recently in Hyderabad . 25 other facilities are to be opened in a phased manner across other major cities of India .
I had a peek at the services they provided and the value they provided to their customers at their operations in Toronto Canada last year. The complex itself is so huge and spread over such a large space that it would put a small sized airport to shame .
Furniture of all kinds and varieties are on display with their storage points marked clearly at the warehouse from where the selected article could be picked up for billing .
The huge children s play area and the food court that go with it were always full and one had to wait their turn to enter the same .
My son had bought a number of items from the IKEA STORES for the new house which he had bought and shifted . We had no problem in assembling all but one item of purchase as the instructions for the assembly and spares to be used were very clear with elaborate pictoral displays in the print handouts .
However one item the SWAMI STAND Which we were assembling got damaged due to our mishandling of the same . It was beyond repair and there was absolutely no way except to find a replacement for the same .
Not sure of what to do ,
We took the entire set , broken as well as all the spares that go with it to the counter marked as REPLACEMENT OR EXCHANGE
The lady at the counter asked just one question . Did we have a receipt for the same. She had just one look at it and said that it would be a time consuming job to find a replacement , the better option would be that she would credit the cost ( 150 CAD ) to my sons account and we could pick up a new set from the warehouse . The whole transaction took just 10 minutes .
Now contrast this with the way we do business back home .
1 ) Items once sold will not be taken back under any circumstance.
2) cost for replacement will have to be borne by the buyer .
3 ) 25 % extra charges for the replaced part .
4 ) We are not responsible for the quality of the product , please take it up with the manufacturer .
The new SWAMI STAND aseembled by yous truely and my son can be seen in the picture attached .

We need to have a relook at the way we do our business .
IKEA SURELY IS A CLASS APART
Very nice that you shared the experience. Really nice place for shopping.. IKEA
ReplyDeleteI visited their outlet at Dubai 👍
As am atheist, I'd say that the purchase was unnecessary! But, yes, customer service of IKEA is practical
