The French were the first settlers in Canada and the Natives introduced the place as KANATA which over the years came to be known as CANADA .
It is entwined in the path of two rivers Ottawa and the Rideau river. The Rideau river makes a magnificent waterfall like drop and merges with the much larger Ottawa river .
All this is right in front of the Canadian Prime Minister s Residence . There are no fancy or elaborate security decoy of any kind and The Machine Gun wielding Police are conspicuous by their absence .
The conducted tour of the Governor General of Canada s Palace is very informative . The Titular Head of Canada is still Queen Elizabeth 2 of England and the GG of Canada is Her Representative . Till 1952 it still had an Englishman in that post . It is now a prominent Canadian Citizen who occupies the seat .
The provinces of Ontario and Quebec form on either side of the Ottawa River . The Ontario side is English and the Quebec side is French .
This is a very Beutiful place to visit with many historical connections .
The well maintained roads , parks and Garden with the leaves in many different colours are most soothing to the eye .
IT IS BY FAR THE CHEAPEST HERE AS ALL YOU FRIENDS MAY BE AWARE , BY A GOOD FORTUNE OF THE GRACE OF THE GOOD LORD ABOVE , I HAVE TRAVELLED FAR AND WIDE ACROSS THE GLOBE AND HAVE ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL BY TRAIN IN MANY OF THESE COUNTRIES . SITTING HERE IN CANADA I CAME ACROSS A BOARD WHICH WAS POSTED IN ANOTHER GROUP WHICH SHOWED THE PASSENGER TRAIN FARE DETAILS EX AMBAS TO VARIOUS PLACES . WE , WHICH INCLUDES ME , YOURS TRULY FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON LIKE TO CRITICIZE THE SERVICE PROVIDERS BE IT FROM THE STATE OR CENTRAL AUSPICES FOR NO LOGICAL REASON AND DO A GREAT DISSERVICE TO OUR NATION BY PAINTING IT IN ALL THE WRONG COLOURS. TAKE FOR EXAMPLE THE PASSENGER TRAIN FARE FROM AMBASAMUDRAM TO KOVILPATTY . FOR THE 100 KM DISTANCE THE FARE ON THE INDIAN RAILWAYS IT IS Rs 25 OR 40 PAISE PER KILOMETER . A JOURNEY THAT WENT ON TO CHANGE MY LIFE I must at the very outset post a disclaimer here . The events which I am about to describe here are events that took place some half a century back . RETURN TO INDIA FROM CANADA It is now almost close to a year that we are away from India . We had booked our return Tickets on the 12 th of May by The Etihad Airways Flight EY 22 from Toronto to Abu Dhabi and the Flight EY 364 from Abu Dhabhi to Chennai . This was much before the skirmishes in the Gulf Region had started to make Headlines . The reason for Choosing Etihad Airways as our Travel Partner was pretty obvious . Besides being cheaper , their travel time was also less . Barring the Transit Halt at Abu Dhabhi for 4 Hours , the entire trip was of less than 24 hours duration . The all important TWO check in baggages for each of us was a definite advantage. Most Airlines restrict the same to one per head .
