RAVANASAMUDRAM ANNUAL VILLAGE 2020 FESTIVAL 138








With the present and past  political dispensation in power for almost half a century now ; The concept of a Village Agraharam and all that one associates with it has gradually seen a sea change ,  so much so that it is now  almost impossible to find an Agrahaaram in all its true sense .

RAVANASAMUDRAM , a small and tiny  village in the Tirunelveli District of Tamilnadu has got over this trend and is perhaps the only Village that stands true to the term
AGRAHAARAM

This village on the banks of the Ramanadhi River and close to the Western Ghats is almost 40 Kilometers from Tirunelvei or Tenkasi on either side . The green paddy fields surrounding the village is a treat to the eyes for almost the entire part of the year .

Give or take a few , this village of 150 odd houses in its Sannathi Street and Two Mada Streets are the abode of LORD  CHOKKANATHAR AND MEENAKSHI AMBAAL .

The Annual Temple Festival to consecrate these deities is held each year with the utmost devotion , attention to deatail and fanfare .

This almost 10 day Festival attracts natives from all over India and the Globe who make it a point to offer their prayers on specified days or for the entire duration of the festival each year .
Recitation of Sri Rudram with 11 Anuvagam is done with utmost devotion everyday . Abhishekam , Alangaaram , Prasadam and OOR ULAA of the deities in various Vaahanaas are a multiple everyday feature .

No cooking need to be done in any house of the village as Breakfast , Lunch , Dinner and not to forget the afternoon Tea and Snacks is provided at the Mandapam of Cine Musician Bharadwaj who is a native of this place . The all important Food being taken care , and the residents of the village  keeping theirs hearts , doors and houses open for the visitors and making  them feel at home goes a long way in making this festival the success that it always is .


Our family s dedicated  8 th day function was held yesterday with all the reverence and devotion  . We four cousins from Bangalore , Trivandrum , Chennai and myself from Ambasamudram with our better halves took part in what must be said as a most enjoyable and fruitful day . Renewing notes on long missed friends and relatives was an added attraction in itself .
The highlight of the evening was also the scintillating Dance performance of the Melattur Dance Troupe that just left everyone in a daze .

Hats off to the Village and to all its residents for making a name for Ravanasamudram for all the right reasons .

Special mention must be made of Neelu , Rm Hariharan Anna who  despite his age must have put in umpteen hours of planning to make this  event a grand and unforgettable one  .
Special Tanks to Ramani and Krishnan and family for making us a part of their family .

    Ganesh...nice to hear from you, such a beautiful village festival, that too from an agraharam like yours is organizing the festival with all of you, taking with sincere interest..As i was requesting u, some time back, i will be much pleased, if u can take me, next time.thank you, dear, well in advance .

US VISIT 3 - SURPRISE PACKAGE - 777

         SURPRISE PACKAGE      VISIT TO NEW VRINDABAN  Our plan was to head for our home in Ajax after Breakfast as it was almost an Eight hour drive back home with  a number of Pitstops in between .   Sathya and Vandana gave us ( Revathy and Myself ) a pleasant Surprise by informing us that we were heading for NEW VRINDABAN instead  in the neighboring State of WEST VIRGINIA  . NAVARATHRI GOLU 2025 - AJAX - 795

                    NAVARATHRI 2025   --  AJAX  We are at my Son and Daughter In Law’s place at Ajax in Canada this year for the Navarathri Festival . It is  a festival which has the Ladies garnering all the limelight during the Nine Day Festival with THE GOLU as the highlight . The men in the house have to get down the Cartons from the attic with the neatly packed idols of last year stored there with utmost care . Cleaning and dusting the same takes some doing . Getting the 5 or 7 Deck GOLU PADI is a big task in itself . Haarish , my son is good with his hands which includes the Carpentry work also .
