 MEETING COLLEGE MATES AFTER 40+                                     YEARS                                        

As I had mentioned in my earlier Blogs , I had done my Textile Technology at SASMIRA , Mumbai in 1972 and then went on to serve from 1974 at Madura Coats down at Extreme South VK PURAM .

The three years  at Sasmira were the best years which resulted in many friendships which has stood the test of time all these years . 

Ours was so to say  a diverse group which had apart from me , another Tamilian and a relative by a long shot from Ravanasamudram , A Gujarati , A Mangalorean  , An Andhraite and lastly one from Chapra in Bihar .

Four of us in the batch were extra close and shared experiences and memories which  no TIME or any other factor can or will erase.  3  of the batchmates pursued their carrier in Mumbai while I chose to venture South .

Though we all went our separate ways , our plan to meet and have a get together  were not very often , in fact it was only once , when me with my family were in Mumbai for a family function and had a gala session at a Restaurant in Andheri .

Ambasamudram my native place is a sure delight for Nature Enthusiasts and Temple Hoppers . Two of the said  classmates with their better halves planned a visit down South which included a Visit to Rameshwarwm first . What made this even more enjoyable and memorable was that Two of the " BETTER HALVES " were known to each other and also all of us were known to each other  from their Courting days in Mumbai .

Exactly 6 years back , almost to the very day and date  , the long awaited get together did take place at , guess where at Ambasamudram . I joined them from Bangalore where I was then stationed with my son and family .

No words to describe the thrill one gets on such occasions . Notes passed on our good old college days Deja vu and the subsequent years there after .

The visits to various places of Tourist attractions were secondary to the quality time spent together  .











A plan to do  an encore by the group ,  this time with the 4 th member of the group also joining is planned for Somnath , Dwaraka and Mount Abu in Gujarat sometime after the Covid 19 or 20 scare finally ends with the arrival of the  of the vaccines .

 AYODHYA YAATRA  DAY - ONE     Sundar Holiday Travels  As instructed  by Mr Ashok of Sunder Travels , we were dot on time at 9.00 thanks primarily due to smooth flow of traffic from Vadapalani to the Chennai  Airport .  Other Yatrees also slowly trooped in . Ashok seemed to have his way with the Indigo Airways . Group Check in saved us a lot of time . Lunch packet Distribution done we were on our way and were before time at Lucknow .  Lucknow was a lot different from what I had imagined , airport was spotlessly clean as was their baggage handling services .  Mr Ashok saw to it that we were off on a Bus to Ayodhya in a flash . Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands .  VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
