LASTING MEMORIES - COATS VKP COLONY - 325

LASTING MEMORIES OF VK PURAM COATS                                         COLONY

Anyone associated with the Madura Coats VK Puram colony , I am pretty certain will agree with me when I say that it was one of the best part of their life that they had spent at this almost heaven on earth place .

The scenic and picturesque nature's bounty of the place  apart , what remains finely etched in memory are the many evenings spent celebrating the festive seasons . Be it the  Diwali , Onam , Christmas or New Year Celebrations  . Anytime was a fine time when  all the residents of the colony got together to have a jolly good time . The memory and  visit of various Drama Troupes. especially the Crazy Mohan shows will stay on for ever .

The TUG OF WAR GAME in one such Celebrations comes to mind . Yours truely ,   all of 55 Kgs  , Captaining a side against  a team led by my good friend George Jacob , 6 foot something and one who could give a Sumo Wrestler a run for his money will stay on in my memory. The result of the match was of no consequence , we all had a jolly and gala time.

The stand out feature was the bi monthly screening of Tamil, English and Hindi Movies at the Colony Club Open Air Theater . What started off originally as a 16 mm projector slowly graduated to the 35 mm first and finally to the Cinemascope Projector . The film rolls after the  last show screening at the local Theaters would find their way to the colony Club . All blockbuster movies in all the languages would be screened here .

Simultaneous screening of the movie at the Local Theater  and at the Colony Club was also a feature sometimes when the film rolls were transhipped from either place without a hazzle and without any break in screening of the movies at either places .  ( Huge film Rolls or Reels were in use then ,  DIgital formats came much later ) . Gandhi , Slumdog Millionaire , Titanic , Juraissic Park to name only a few were all screened this way .

Here is where the expertise of Krishna Theater Operator Palani and Coats Electrician Alfred who were a common feature in all these , came to the fore .

The Cholay  Puri or Parotta during the Interval was the highlight.  The kids simply loved it . The ladies looked forward to it as the dinner for the  family was well and truely taken care . The gents finally had something nice to munch !!! . This is not to belittle in any way the culinary skills of the ladies in the colony . They were masters in the art which manifested itself during the various other get togethers .

          GREAT DAYS  AND FOND MEMORIES
