MORNING WALK ON A FRIDAY MORNING 342
MORNING WALK ON A FRIDAY MORNING
The time around 6.30 am is always a pleasant time for my usual daily walk at Agasthiarpatty. I have now made it an almost daily practice to cover 4.5 Kms or 7000 steps of a one hour walk everyday . The walk around the old Airstrip does make this very convenient.
To day was no different , infact the Sun has been a bit lenient these days and the temperatures are a bit cooler than what is usually the case during this part of the year .
Five minutes into the walk and I could see a person nearly 100 mts ahead who was also into his early morning walk . He seemed to be a bit slower than me in his walk .
His gait seemed to suggest that he was around my age or thereabouts . My immidiate reaction was to increase my speed a bit and overtake him. I could see that the distance between us was gradually reducing . This added a further rush of blood and made my walk even faster . Soon I was level with him and as we drew close , he removed his mask and said , " Good Morning Sir , Nice weather , Enjoy your Walk " . His toothy smile and cheerfulness was a pleasant surprise .I too waved at him and moved on .
While almost completing the walk and returning home , I noticed this very same man sitting on a culvert and busy talking to someone else and feeding the birds and squirrels with peanuts from a paper bag that he carried . By his side was the part of a JAIPUR LEG ( Artificial Leg for use of people who have had part of their leg amputated due to an accident or injury ) .
No words can describe the shock that I felt at that instant or how low or demeaning it was of me to even attempt a race with this Gentleman .
Here was a person , who has taken the drawback of a Jaipur Leg in his stride and is trying to live his life to the fullest .
What made me even think of attempting a race with a person who was a total stranger to me . What had I gained by winning the race or more importantly what had he lost . He did not even know that there was a race in the first place or that he was a part a race .
My waving at him was only after his greeting, Why was I not the first person to do so .
Why did I miss the many birds that come my way each morning and also enjoy their happy chirping .
Why have I not noticed the sound of the breeze as it swished the many oak and other trees that are very much a part of Agasthiarpatty which make this place unique.
IN THE END I GUESS WE HAVE TO BE HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE GOT AND BE THANKFUL TO BE BLESSED WITH WHAT WE HAVE .
KIDS LIKE THE W
A HOUSE LIKE THE X
MONEY LIKE THE Y OR
BEAUTIFUL/HANDSOME - WIFE/HUSBAND LIKE THE Z
are never going to make one happy or contended .
Enjoying what you have and being thankful for it and sharing it with the less fortunate ones I guess is what will make everyone happy .
