   TV MAKING ITS FIRST APPEARANCE IN OUR                                                      LIVES 

                          
Certain things or items become a part of our lives and it becomes increasingly impossible to imagine a life without them .
One such item is the TELEVISION set .

We were all residing at the Madura Coats  Company   Quarters  at VK PURAM in Papanasam Mill
Gate . 

In the early 1980 s , we would envy the people of the Metro Cities who had access to DOORDARSHAN Programs on their TV . A sizeable proportion  of them even had Colour Television Sets . In those days it was out of limits for most families and owning a Colour Television Set was an absolute Luxury . Imagine the watching the magic of your favorite Movies in colour and in the comfort of your homes .

News started trickling in of Srilanka s ROOPAVAHINI being available with very high antennas and powerful double boosters . It was a joke that one could even see Sri Lanka itself from the very top of the Antenna .




My nephew Ravi  from Russia was gracious enough to present me  with a Black and White Television Set with a screen Size all of FOUR INCHES .  This was almost the Very First Television Set in the Colony . An 80 feet high antenna and a booster brought the  ROOPAVAHINI in  to our house . No words can describe the thrill of watching the action on the screen for the first time .

News got around and  Colony Club first and a few other inmates of the colony started making enquiries and installed Television Sets in their houses .
Colony Club had a 24 Inches Solidaire Black and White set installed . DOORDARSHAN was still a fair distance away with the Kodaikanal Tower still under installation.

WEDNESDAY TAMIL MOVIE 
 Thillana Mohanambal is still fresh in my mind . Special rearrangement was made to install the TV set in such a way that it was possible for the Colony residents gathered in the Colony Club to watch the movie seated on their chairs . This all time hit had atleast 100 residents watching  the full movie till the wee hours of the morning .

All these on Roopavahini were  quite a favorite with everyone .

 Over Time , I too sort of became a technician who could be entrusted with the task of Installing the Antenna and Booster . Many houses in the colony had the same installed and erected by me .

January 14 th 1987 , Kodaikanal TV Tower was linked to DD Chennai and the rest as they say is history .
Black and White has given way to Colour , Antenna has now  become a clothes line and the Booster an Antique Piece gathering dust in the attic if it has still not been disposed off as trash  . Dish Antenna and cable TV are the IN  thing now . It is now possible to create A Home Theater and Watch the Proceedings on the wide wall inside the comfort of  our  homes .

 OPENED THE DOOR FOR THE  UMPTEEN PRIVATE CHANNELS THAT WE SEE AND WHICH  ARE NOW PART OF OUR DAILY ACTIVITY  .

         SURPRISE PACKAGE      VISIT TO NEW VRINDABAN  Our plan was to head for our home in Ajax after Breakfast as it was almost an Eight hour drive back home with  a number of Pitstops in between .   Sathya and Vandana gave us ( Revathy and Myself ) a pleasant Surprise by informing us that we were heading for NEW VRINDABAN instead  in the neighboring State of WEST VIRGINIA  . New VRINDABAN is the US Headquarters of the Popular  HARE KRISHNA OR ISKON Community in the US and the final resting place of their founder or PRABHUPADA . The Krishna Temple ; Palace of Gold ; Rose Garden ; Goshala ; Peacock Mount is very Scenic ; People from all over the World Visit this place in large numbers and stay here for a few days for enchantment and to be with  MOTHER NATURE at its very Best .  The travel time involved was just 60 Minutes of Extra Time from our place of stay but the last 20 Minutes of travel involved coveri...

NAVARATHRI GOLU 2025 - AJAX - 795

                    NAVARATHRI 2025   --  AJAX  We are at my Son and Daughter In Law’s place at Ajax in Canada this year for the Navarathri Festival . It is  a festival which has the Ladies garnering all the limelight during the Nine Day Festival with THE GOLU as the highlight . The men in the house have to get down the Cartons from the attic with the neatly packed idols of last year stored there with utmost care . Cleaning and dusting the same takes some doing . Getting the 5 or 7 Deck GOLU PADI is a big task in itself . Haarish , my son is good with his hands which includes the Carpentry work also .
