50 Year Old Memory - 622

  IRON BRIDGE OR IRUMBU                                PAALAM 




The three iconic pictures above , I am sure would have brought back many nostalgic memories of their association with Madura Coats at VK Puram or Ambas .

Anyone who has had anything to do with the Madura Coats Complex would have traversed this IRON BRIDGE OR IRUMBU PAALAM   any number of times . This bridge of 125 years vintage and dating back to the Pre - Independence British Era was till very recently the sole getaway from the Millgate or the Coats  Staff Residential Quarters to anywhere in VK PURAM or to any other  place beyond .

THE IRON BRIDGE HAS NOW MADE WAY FOR THE HIGHER LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY OF THE NEW CONCRETE BRIDGE .

Nevertheless , this picture perfect and scenic locale of the Bridge with the Tambarabarani River snaking her way below is awe inspiring and a definite stopover point for a selfie for anyone visiting the place for the first time . As one of the remaining structures of the British Era , this bridge does have a connect with the historical past  

The Date 4 th August has  remained etched in my mind . This was the day when yours truely and 22 other fellow apprentices joined this unit on transfer from Madurai .

There we were , the entire 22 of us on the first evening , splashing on the riverbed , taking a bath and admiring the sheer beauty of the place . Many amongst us were infact having a bath  in the flow of a river for the first time  in their lives .

Now 50  years later , there is always a tug at the heart whenever the beauty of the place or a  chance look of the place is depicted in a picture or a post  .

I have the good fortune to visit many such places across the Globe , but the sheer green  beauty all around and nativity of the place remains unmatched .

I REPEAT THIS POST ON THE EVE OF AN EVENT OF 50 YEARS VINTAGE AND OUT OF SHEER LOVE FOR THE PLACE AND THE LASTING FRIENDSHIP WITH MANY IN THE GANG OF 22 WHO ARE STILL IN CONTACT WITH ME EVEN AFTER THESE LONG YEARS Retirement of most in the group has never been a dampener.

US VISIT 3 - SURPRISE PACKAGE - 777

         SURPRISE PACKAGE      VISIT TO NEW VRINDABAN  Our plan was to head for our home in Ajax after Breakfast as it was almost an Eight hour drive back home with  a number of Pitstops in between .   Sathya and Vandana gave us ( Revathy and Myself ) a pleasant Surprise by informing us that we were heading for NEW VRINDABAN instead  in the neighboring State of WEST VIRGINIA  . New VRINDABAN is the US Headquarters of the Popular  HARE KRISHNA OR ISKON Community in the US and the final resting place of their founder or PRABHUPADA . The Krishna Temple ; Palace of Gold ; Rose Garden ; Goshala ; Peacock Mount is very Scenic ; People from all over the World Visit this place in large numbers and stay here for a few days for enchantment and to be with  MOTHER NATURE at its very Best .  The travel time involved was just 60 Minutes of Extra Time from our place of stay but the last 20 Minutes of travel involved coveri...

NAVARATHRI GOLU 2025 - AJAX - 795

                    NAVARATHRI 2025   --  AJAX  We are at my Son and Daughter In Law’s place at Ajax in Canada this year for the Navarathri Festival . It is  a festival which has the Ladies garnering all the limelight during the Nine Day Festival with THE GOLU as the highlight . The men in the house have to get down the Cartons from the attic with the neatly packed idols of last year stored there with utmost care . Cleaning and dusting the same takes some doing . Getting the 5 or 7 Deck GOLU PADI is a big task in itself . Haarish , my son is good with his hands which includes the Carpentry work also .
