MY SCHOOL AT KHARAGPUR DOWN MEMORY LANE87

           

The year is 2017 and the date 21 st of March   . Self and wife had completed our long pending visit to Puri Jagannath Temple. After getting the blessings from 

Lord Jagannath , Balabhadra and Subhadra, we entrained the Puri / Howrah Duranto Express and were on our way to Kharagpur.
 Kharagpur is the place where i completed the last 4 years of my schooling . No words can describe the thrill one gets upon seeing a place with which you have had innumerable  memories and which come rushing in even some 50 years after you have left the place . Now , this is a school of British Vintage having its opening on the 13 th of November 1899 which is almost 120 years old to the day . I say almost to the day because on the 13 th of Nov this year , we will be some 30000 feet above the earth passing high over the Atlantic or the Parched Deserts of the Gulf on our way from Toronto to Abu Dhabi enroute to Chennai and would not be able to pen this then.

This is a school affiliated to the CISCE or Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations and it used to be called as the SENIOR CAMBRIDGE in those days with the 11 th Standard Examination Papers being corrected in the UK . 

English held the prime of place in these examinations .  As i have already mentioned in my earlier  blogs , my medium of instruction in school till then had been in Hindi only and my English was nothing much  to be proud or write home about , restricted as it was to 
a YES OR NO  only and nothing and strictly nothing  beyond that .

It is to the credit of all Teachers like Miss Netto , Miss Raj , Miss Prem Lata and  Mr Dubey for whatever I am today  .  The Head Master and English Teacher Mr Debi Prasad  was the one single factor for my prowess in English or more correctly the lack of it due to my own inability to grasp the nuances . May the Good Lord Above Grant Mr Debi Prasad all the peace .

It was indeed a proud moment to see my name marked as the School Captain or Head Boy  for the year 1967 in the Display Board of the School Library . 

Self and my better half  do hope to repeat the visit some day in future if all goes well with the Devine Blessings of Lord Jagannath .

 AYODHYA YAATRA  DAY - ONE     Sundar Holiday Travels  As instructed  by Mr Ashok of Sunder Travels , we were dot on time at 9.00 thanks primarily due to smooth flow of traffic from Vadapalani to the Chennai  Airport .  Other Yatrees also slowly trooped in . Ashok seemed to have his way with the Indigo Airways . Group Check in saved us a lot of time . Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands .  VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
