MUMBAI/CHENNAI FAMILY - PAVOOR VISIT DAY 2 - 132

We were not much off the mark from our scheduled departure time of 7 am for the long day ahead as we had planned a visit to diverse places of interest.

Our first place of intended visit was to the Marudu Saastha Temple at Melapavoor . Raju and Prema , our guests from Mumbai had planned Abhishekam and Pooja at this Temple .

Now , Ravanasamudram my own native place  being enroute to Melapavoor , we all decided to visit the place . This is one village which has withstood the test of time and has refused the lure of money  to be probably the only  Agrahaaram in Tamilnadu if not the whole  country to be  inhabited by members of our community . Proud indeed to belong to such a place .

After a  quick look at this small and picturesque village , we were off to Melapavoor via Kadayam . Now , my wife Revathy had been a Tamil  Teacher in KADAYAM CHATRAM BHARATHI GIRLS  SCHOOL  in this place for 35 long years . The day being the  26 th of January and the time close to 8.30 am , she had a chance meeting with many of her one time colleagues and students . Thanks to the REPUBLIC DAY in more ways than one .

The Saastha Temple is located in the middle of a Coconut Grove , quiet , and  as yet  quite unspoilt and  distant from any human activity . Since we still had time before the arrival of the Temple Vaadyar , we finished our Breakfast in the Tavera Van which was at our disposal.
The Abhishekam , Alangaaram , Poojai and Prasadam were done in the  most devout manner . Our thanks to Raju and Prema for making us be a part of this function .

Our next place of visit was to the Vadukku Vaasal Selvi Amman Temple at Melapavoor.  This Temple was agog and busy as its annual KODAI function was scheduled on the 28th of this month and our guests from Mumbai/Chennai were making this visit for this explicit reason . This VVSA Temple unlike the earlier Saastha Temple in a Coconut Grove is situated enclosed on all sides by the  paddy fields. It is GREEN AND ONLY GREEN as far as the eyes can see .  Even as busy as it was with the ensuing KODAI festival , the Abhishekam , Alangaaram , Poojai and Prasaadam were done with the utmost devotion .
Though a bit late , we had a sumptuous lunch at a home in Melapavoor village. The home cooked food though a bit costly was tasty . Our next place of visit was the ILANJI KUMARASWAMI TEMPLE .
This Temple on the foothills of the Western Ghats is a feast to the eyes . This picture perfect locale and Temple is a must see place for anyone making a visit to a place in and around this area .

We were now headed for  the VEDA PATASALAI run under the auspices of the SRINGERI SHARADHA MATAM . This place on the Agrahaaram entrenched as it is on entry to the town of Shenkottah is also famous for the KOLAM DANCE AND PAINTINGS in the Movie Anniyan and the song Andan Kaaka Kondai Kaari .

But to important things first , this Paatasalai on the first floor of the Sharadha Temple has 18 absolutely adorable kids just about to enter the teens . Surprisingly 9 of them are  from Monghir in Bihar and the rest from the southern states  and their recitation of the slogams in Sanskrit and Tamil was amazing .
We were humbled by their devotion and being kids , their playfulness . They were under the care of a warden and their learning part was imparted by a GANAPADIGAL . We were all absolutely spell bound and offered our mite for their wellbeing . May God be always with these adorable kids .

The last place of visit for the day was the Kumara Malai  Kovil . This Murugan Temple is up the hill and the circuitous ghat road literally takes you to another world . The scenic beauty of the place is unmatched.  Pleasant wind with greenery all around and the 3 rd day Moon ( MOONRAAM PIRAI ) just making its appearance is an absolutely unforgettable experience . The Temple visit itself and the Golden Chariot made our day complete .

We returned home at 9 pm , satisfied with everything that came our way .  The next morning's visit to the NAVA THIRUPATHI was scheduled for departure at 6.00 am , did we make it on time ???
