TIRUKKURUNGUDI NAMBI KOVIL VISIT PART 2 - 142
These cluster of 5 Temples go by the term ' NAMBI ' which in Tamil means FAITH TRUST OR EVEN BELIEF. Legend has it that the wishes of all who visit these 5 Temples in Good Faith get their wishes fulfilled .
I have already detailed the beauty of the first 4 Temples .
The Fifth and final place of visit is the Nambi Malai Temple . This is some 10 kms from the TIRUKKURUNGUDI main temple complex . We were asked to take part of this journey by a 4 Wheel Drive Jeep and the charges were Rs 1000 - for 4 persons , Private vehicles were not allowed . Since we had our own vehicle and not allowed to use it I thought we were being fleeced unnecessarily by unscrupulous and money minded agents .
The first 5 kms were almost like the NH absolutely smooth . This is where we entered The Kalakad Mundanthurai Wild Life Sanctuary . A sum of Rs 150 was collected as entry fee and we entered the Range . Lo and behold , the road had vanished and what was in front was rocks and pebbles in sizes ranging from a Cricket Ball to a Basketball if not bigger . The steep incline , treacherous curves , very sharp bends and the constant jolting of the Jeep could either cure a person of body an ache in any part of the body or conversely one could get in to severe problems with back ache and related issues . Our Jeep driver Pandy seemed perfectly trained in maneuvering the Jeep up this Terrible Terrain . The 4 of us and Pandy were always in imminent danger of being flung out of the vehicle every passing minute .
I now appreciate why the ARMY CHOOSES THE JEEP for its combat operations . The Power , Brakes , Axles , Maneuverability could not have been possible by any other vehicle . After 40 Minutes of this Extreme High Voltage Adventure we were at the Doorstep of MALAINAMBI . The pristine beauty of the place up the Mahendragiri Ranges and close to the ISRO Liquid Propulsion Testing Site cannot be amply described in words . Suffice to say that NAMBI saw us safely back at TIRUKKURUNGUDI . Even now it sends shivers everytime I think of the journey up the hill .
FAITH IN NAMBI DOES DO WONDERS
