                  THE TOP 



This is one incident I can never forget. Each year the Appraisal time brings with it many new tensions . Will I be promoted , will the increase in October be 7.5 % or 10% or better still the 15% . The ad hoc increase in Basic Salary was also a factor .  I was at a senior position and we had just finished our annual appraisal  reviews. I had the list of employees who were to be given their Promotion Letters/ Salary Increase Letters or COVERS as they were referred to by everyone . 

THE FEAR OF THE Rs 1 Lakh Cheque in the COVER WAS ALWAYS A LOOMING FEAR as it meant that the company was only too pleased to relieve you of your services .

All was going well until I  called this guy to talk to him about a new opportunity. It was a promotion from his current role, and he had the right skills and qualifications.


*Sorry but I'm not interested,* he politely said.

I pressed him on it until he said something that really confused me. He told me that he *"already made it to the top"*.

I was familiar with his current role and looked at his CV again.

He wasn't anywhere near the top. He would have needed binoculars to see the top. He wasn't even a senior manager yet.

*He explained to me that "making it to the top" for him meant he loved the exact work he did each day, he loved his company, he was treated fairly and with respect, he made enough money to be comfortable, he had excellent benefits, he had flexibility, and most importantly to him, he's never missed a single football game, school play, parent-teacher conference, anniversary, birthday, or any family event.*

He knew what taking the next step in his career meant. More time, travel, and sacrifice. *Not worth it,* he said.

*Reflection*

 Your definition of *"making it to the top"* doesn't have to be society's or anyone else's definition. 

An aspiration in life to make it to the TOP we all live with. The secret is it is in your hands to do it - only thing needed is your vision to define what is the *top* for you.

Life has become a race and in this we have forgotten to live life! The sad part is by the time we want to live its too late.

We often argue and justify ourselves by saying it is for the family, to give my kids a good future that you are working so hard. But the reality is if you can not enjoy time with your loved ones when they are still there whats the fun?

*So here is wishing the super best in life as you make it to the TOP in every walk of life.*

Ayodhya Yaatraa Day -3 - 704

                  Ayodhya Yatra - Day 3  The highlight of the day was to be the Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangamam .  For the uninformed Triveni Sangamam is the place where the Three Rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswathy converge into one . It is the place where Veni Daanam is given after a bath in the River .  The 20 Minute Boat Ride takes you to this place of convergence of these three rivers . The Boatmen help you to take a dip in the water . Old set of clothes are discarded symbolising the discarding of everything bad and the start of a new fresh life .  Ganga is slightly murky while the Yamuna is clearer , Saraswathy is Antervaahini and it converges under water .  The Dhambadhi Pooja after the Dip in the Holy Waters  was performed with all the diligence that the occasion demands .  VAIKOM VISIT - IN GODS OWN                     COUNTRY  Kerala has always been my favourite place of visit over the years . Its cleanliness , its greenery,  waterways , not to forget its spirituality and beautiful people in more ways than one  have always held  a special attraction for  me . We , that is me and my Better Half have visited Kerala before  and visited many of  its  Temples and Tourist Attractions.  One place missing in this list has been the Viakom  Sri Mahadeva Temple . We decided to embark  on  a visit to this place and Mami was spot on to point out that there was a direct Train from Ambasamudram to Vaikom Road by the 16792 Palaruvi Express starting from ASD at 11.57 PM and reaching Vaikom Road Station at 7.30 Am the next morning .
