How to Make Your Retired Life a Godsend
( This could apply to anyone , be it in Agasthiarpatty, Mumbai , Chennai , Toronto or Milan )
The One thing in common that all Retired Persons have in common is TIME on their Hands . This is a luxury which only the Senior Citizens have . It is always a challenge to make use of the same in an effective way . The challenge becomes even more difficult if your offsprings are settled in a far off place within the Country or even abroad .
The often heard word in these times is“ BOREDOM “
Let us spend some time and dwell a little deeper to decode this seven letter Word that go on to play such an important part in the later part of our Lives .
This is probably the only time in our entire lifetime when we have so much time at your disposal . You and me have not had it before and in all likelihood , we are never going to have it again anytime soon .
Consider this as a BOON which has now come your way . Be thankful to The Almighty above for giving you ALL THE TIME to do the many things that you had always wanted to do but never found the time to do so . Be Thankful to him for keeping you in in Good Spirits and more importantly in Good Health .
Listed below are a random selection of actions which could in a way lessen your BOREDOM and keep you Mentally and Physically Occupied and Strong .
A Spend quality time with your beloved , your children or your grandchildren , parents or grandparents depending on the age bracket you are now in . The Social Media Platforms make this possible with WhatsApp , Instagram , E Mail and the like . Physical distance is not at all an issue any more.
B There would always be hobbies which you did not have the time to persue . List them out first . This itself is sure to take a lot of your time if done in all sincerity .
C Complete reading the Mario Puzo book which has been left untouched with the marker on page 77 for the last 6 months if not more .
D Do the drawing or painting job which was always your fancy .
E Clean up the cobwebs which are a always a source of embarrassment , the one behind the TV stand being especially a very prominent one which has been waiting desperately to seek your attention .
F Scrubbing and Mopping of the floor would be a great help to your Mother/Betterhalf not to forget your own stiff hands and legs .
G Do the cleaning of the kitchen and the Attic which you have always been putting off for that " some other day " .
H Labels all your important documents like Bank Passbooks , ATM Cards , and find a safe place for Insurance Policies , Vehicle Documents , Passports , Birth Certificates , Aadhar Cards , Gas Connection Documents , Home Land Annual Tax Receipts, Tenant Agreement for the House that you have let out , Bank Locker Key Details and such other important documents for your use and your offsprings use in case of that EVER LOOMING EMERGENCY .
I Discarding all the unwanted things from the house which somehow occupy a lot of place . This you had always wanted to do but never found the time . The 20 odd pairs of Leatherware in the form of old discoloured Shoes and Sandals in your shoe rack that should have been discarded some 5 years or so back if not more .
J Clean up the electrical ceiling fan which shows up in all it's TRUE colours only when it is in the stopped position .
K Clean all the Photographs in both the Swami Room and Drawing Room .
L Catch up again on the Tabla , Mridangam, Mouth Organ , Guitar , Banjo or whatever instrument that you always wanted to be a master .
M Listen to the enchanting voice of Jagajit Singh , PB Srinivas , Talat Mehmood or whoever you always wanted to listen to in the dark confines of your bedroom with your loved one beside you .
N Gather around a table with your loved ones and watch the many CD s in your collection , your own marriage or your offsprings marriage or the many movie CD s that you have so painstakingly collected over the years .
O Have a go at the online YOGA classes that are almost a craze now .
P Meditation is the new way to peace and lessening the mental stress , why not give it a try.
Q The BUTTON and HOLE of your trousers have been at war for quite sometime now and refusing to come to an understanding and meet at the waist , why not have a go at exercising every morning and evening , by taking a brisk walk or even cycling for a few Kms .
R Why not have a go at the unfinished article which you had always wanted to write .
S Why not catch up with friends whom you had always wanted to call but pretended that you did not have their contact numbers.
T Recollect the old days from the umpteen hardcopies of photographs taken during various occasions with your friends and family .
U clean up the grass weeds and fallen dead leaves in your front and back yards .
V Stitch up the buttons on your shirt and trousers which have been pending for a long time .
W Let the lady of the house take a break , try your luck at cooking something for the family and surprise them . It obviously is not going to kill anyone .
X Defrost the fridge and clean it up thoroughly .
Y Do the advanced level SUDOKU , it is sure to eat up at least 2 hours of your time .
Z IF YOU STILL HAVE TIME AFTER DOING ALL THESE CHORES , THEN SWITCH ON THE TV AND WATCH THE UMPTEEN PROGRAMS IN THE LANGUAGE OF YOUR CHOICE .
GENRES , TALKSHOWS , MUSIC, MOVIES
DEVOTIONAL . THE CHOICE IS ENDLESS .
JUST REMEMBER ONE THING
BOREDOM IS WHAT YOU BRING ON YOURSELF
