        PONGAL 2024 IN CANADA 

The Celebrations of Pongal signifies the SUN moving into Capricorn called Makara Sankranthi in Sanskrit . In Tamil Pongal means ‘ to boil ‘ and this festival is observed as a gratitude event for the Harvest of the year . It is also a time to express thanks for the crops and rejoice the Warmth of the SUN GOD - SURYA . This is Celebrated across India under various names , 

Ironically I am now residing at an almost Diametrically and Geographically opposite part of the World in Canada at a much colder clime and in that part  of the year where the SUN is not at its brightest.  The Temperatures are mostly at the Sub Zero level and the Winter is at its harshest . 

Pongal all the same is an occasion to Celebrate. The Temperatures which were within Manageable Limits till last Week ,

 ( This is a very rare phenomenon where both the Christmas and New Year were devoid of any snow , people say that this has not been so for the last 100 years or so at Regina , a place notorious for its very severe Winter from the Month of October itself .  ) 

The weather has however now changed and it is now freezing cold . 

Fortunately I am now at Ajax , Toronto where the winter is less severe.

You can see the Sun is shining bright and the sky is blue which is deceiving till you step outside the door.
