              CENTRRING PODA PORA 

The above may look like Spanish , Italian or some such Language to many . Around these parts of Tirunelveli District it refers to laying of the Concrete Roof of a building under Construction. 

We have all been associated with this activity at some point in our lives . It is arguably the most important part of the construction process of the House or Building under construction as the ROOF / TERRACE or CEILING has to withstand the fury of the Nature in Summer , Winter or Rainy Season . 

Turning the Clock back to the Same in Sept 1990 , which is close to 35 Years back , our own House was under Construction at Agasthiarpatty . The CENTRRING process was about to take place . Being the First of the Nine Houses that Ginu Construction had taken upon themselves to Construct , both Chandran , the Owner and Kumar the Maistry  were at their busiest. 

The combined effort of nearly 25 Labourers engaged for the same had to be Marshalled . The Concrete Mixture of  Gravel , Cement and Sand Prepared by hand at ground level had to be carried up the Make Shift Ladder on their Shoulders and laid on the Roof / Terrace . No break of any sort till the entire laying was completed for the entire House was allowed or even contemplated . 

The non veg food and drinks to go with it after the job was completed was a sure incentive for the strenuous work undertaken by the workmen . 

Turning the Clock to the present which is today , the same activity is being carried at an under construction building in front of my house but  with a lot less labour and at a much faster pace . 

The  Concrete  Preparation is on a Machine and it is Hoisted up on to the Roof also on a Machine “ a la rope and ladder method ‘’ 

Feels really nice to dwell in to the past and remember an activity which went into the making of your House which again is now very much a part of your life .
