Most Unwelcome Airport - Our Chennai Airport

We pride ourselves on our long held Traditions . Athithy Devo Bhava is one such Tradition . Leave alone the Athithy , even you who has been living in Chennai for a long time is not welcome back at the Domestic Terminal if you decide to enter the City from wherever you have been by Flight into the City . The problem is even more if you are a Senior Citizen .

After Collecting your Baggage from the Baggage Carousel Bay Earmarked for your Flight . You exit from the Airport and you are in the middle of nowhere , not knowing how to Reach the Hired Vehicle that you had decided earlier and a ritual which you have been doing for a long time now .

The Road in front of the Exit Gate is only for Uber or Ola Taxis.

Enquiries with other Cab Drivers revealed that we have to load our Bagagge on to a Buggy and Ferry you to a point called the Drop - Off - Point . Problem here is that there are only limited Buggies and Seniors may find it a bit of a Challenge to load the Baggage on the Buggies .

At the Drop - Off - Point , you again load your Baggage on to the trolley and look for the Lift to take you and your luggage to the Second Floor . This takes some doing as there is nothing to indicate where the lift is located . You finally reach the Vehicle that you were looking for after a lot of running around .

ONE WILL HARDLY CALL THIS A WELCOME EXPERIENCE.

There is a hoarding in ENGLISH on the wall in front of the Exit at the Airport but I challenge anyone to make out as to what is trying to be conveyed .

For those not comfortable with English or not knowing Tamil ,  it is as good as landing on the Moon or being in the Middle of the Sahara Desert not knowing where to go !!!

It took me more time to travel from Chennai Airport to our home in Vadapalani than the time it took to travel from Gaya to Delhi IGI by flight earlier in the day .

It is all fine to canvas for Business for your State but one should feel WELCOME  when you land at the place first , which is where you are invited to do business in the first place . . That sadly is very much missing now .

Just imagine the plight of a person who knows neither English or Tamil , the implied message that this clearly sends out is

“ YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS TO BE HERE “
